More than $240,000 in grant money has been awarded to fire companies and emergency medical services in the 80th District. The grants will be used to support building projects, equipment purchase or repair, training, and debt reduction. The Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, established by the Legislature, is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. The funding for this program comes from the proceeds generated by slot machine gaming.
"We owe our first responders so much gratitude, as they serve tirelessly in our communities regardless of weather conditions, time of day, or their other commitments in life," said Rep. Jim Gregory, who represents the 80th District.
The grant recipients in the 80th District include several fire companies and emergency medical services. Among them are the Bald Eagle Volunteer Fire Co., Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Co., Claysburg Volunteer Fire Co., Duncansville Emergency Medical Services, Excelsior Fire Co. No. 1, Freedom Township Volunteer Fire Co., Friendship Fire Co. No. 1, Geeseytown Community Fire Co., Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service Inc., Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, Neptune Steam Fire Co. No. 1, Phoenix Steam Fire Engine Co. No. 1, Pinecroft Volunteer Fire Co., Sinking Valley Volunteer Fire Co., Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, and Warriors Mark Franklin Volunteer Fire Co.
The grants provided through this program are crucial in supporting first responders without using tax dollars.
