HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Senator Judy Ward has joined her colleagues in the state Senate in passing a resolution that calls for action to address the crisis at America's southern border and supports the rights of states to protect their citizens. Senate Resolution 234 shows support for the actions taken by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to secure the border in the face of inaction from the Biden administration.

Senator Ward expressed her concerns about the situation at the southern border, stating, "What is going on at America's southern border is a national crisis and must be stopped." She added, "I was proud to support this resolution. Governor Abbott has stepped up in the wake of President Biden's inaction and fought to protect the citizens of Texas and the nation."

The resolution not only calls on the Biden administration to stop hindering Texas's efforts to limit illegal immigration but also encourages Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to join the many other governors across the country who have expressed their support for Governor Abbott. The Biden administration has been opposing Governor Abbott's lawful exercise of his constitutional authority to defend his state and its citizens.

The resolution highlights the alarming increase in the country's illegal immigrant population, which grew to 12.8 million by October 2023, an increase of 2.6 million since President Biden took office in January 2021. The Biden administration's executive orders, which redirected financial resources away from the border, suspended deportations, and ended the successful Remain in Mexico policy, have been cited as contributing factors to this surge.

Senator Ward emphasized the importance of securing the border to ensure the safety of Pennsylvania's residents, saying, "Today, Senate Republicans voiced their support for Governor Abbott and call on Governor Shapiro to support Governor Abbott's efforts to protect the border and keep the citizens of Pennsylvania safe."
